John Morris is a managing director of GKM Ventures. He also is president of the Western Region Association of SBICs and chairman of the Tech Coast Angels.
GKM Ventures, headquartered in Los Angeles and with an office in Menlo Park, is an SBIC-licensed venture capital fund investing $1.5 million to $5 million in expansion-stage technology companies located in the Western U.S. The primary industry sectors in which the fund invests are communications, enterprise software and IT services, semiconductors and digital media.Tech Coast Angels is the largest angel organization in Southern California, with approximately 60 investments in start-up and early-stage companies.
Mr. Morris previously was managing director of the Technology Banking Group at Sutro & Co. and at Wedbush Morgan Securities. He is a former partner of First Interstate Venture Capital Corporation (and its successor, Hall, Morris and Drufva Capital Management) which invested in later-stage venture capital investments and in management buyouts.
Previously, Mr. Morris spent approximately 10 years in financial and operating roles at two public companies. He started his business career with Arthur Young & Co. in Los Angeles after receiving his M.B.A. from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College and earning his B.A. in Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Mr. Morris has been a director for a variety of public and private companies. He presently is a director of the Los Angeles Venture Association and is a frequent speaker on venture capital topics throug
